ALFREDO VOLPI (1896–1988)
Brazil’s great modernist, Volpi transitioned from folk figurative art to geometric abstraction, often using tempera on canvas. His fachadas (facades) and colorful flags became symbols of cultural identi2ty and modern art in Brazil. His works are preserved in the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, MASP, and Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio.

"Color is my structure, not an accessory."
