SIGMAR POLKE (1941–2010)
Polke’s mischievous, genre-defying work blurred the lines between Pop, abstraction, and alchemy. He used unconventional materials—meteor dust, uranium, bubble wrap—mixing media and meaning. An irreverent chronicler of postwar Europe, he co-founded Capitalist Realism as a counter to both Pop Art and Soviet aesthetics. His legacy lives at Tate Modern, MoMA, and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."
