MARK GROTJAHN (B. 1968)

Grotjahn is known for his hypnotic, highly structured compositions that merge precision with expressive force. His Butterfly series, composed of radiating colored lines, explores symmetry, perspective, and surface tension. Later works evolved into thickly impastoed, mask-like abstractions filled with energy and texture. His paintings are held in MoMA, the Broad, and the Whitney Museum.

"I like that feeling of letting go, where the painting becomes something else."
