JOHN BALDESSARI (1931–2020)

Baldessari's conceptual art was a witty collision of image and text, often highlighting the absurdities of art itself. His decision to burn his early paintings and begin again with language-based work became a pivotal gesture in conceptualism. He’s represented in the Broad Museum, LACMA, and the Stedelijk Museum.

"I will not make any more boring art."
