A. R. PENCK (1939–2017)
Born Ralf Winkler in East Germany, Penck developed a bold, symbolic visual language using stick figures, pictograms, and graffiti-like marks to explore communication, resistance, and postwar identity. His raw aesthetic echoed cave painting and data systems alike. His work is in MoMA, Tate, and the Stedelijk Museum."My images speak for everyone. They are visual signs of our condition."
